Our Philosophy
Socratic Social is founded on the principle that knowledge grows best through respectful, critical, and collaborative dialogue. We are committed to fostering an environment that is not only intellectually stimulating but also safe, inclusive, and supportive for all members. These guidelines are the foundation of that commitment.
Core Principles
- Respect and Empathy: Engage with others' ideas and experiences with curiosity and respect. Assume good faith, even in disagreement. Personal attacks, harassment, and bullying are strictly prohibited.
- Inclusivity and Diversity: We welcome and celebrate people of all backgrounds, identities, and perspectives. Hate speech, discrimination, and any form of marginalization based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic will not be tolerated.
- Intellectual Honesty: Strive for clarity and accuracy. Cite sources where appropriate, distinguish between opinion and fact, and be open to changing your mind in the face of new evidence. Misinformation and disinformation are harmful to constructive dialogue.
- Safety and Consent: Do not share private information about others without their explicit consent. Respect boundaries in communication. Any content that is sexually explicit, graphically violent, or encourages self-harm is forbidden.
Moderation
To ensure our community remains a safe and constructive space, we have a two-tiered moderation system:
These are official administrators who oversee the entire platform. They have the final say on content and user moderation, enforce platform-wide rules, and handle escalated reports.
Creators of specific groups act as local moderators. They can set group-specific rules (in addition to these guidelines), manage posts and comments within their group, and facilitate healthy discussion. They can also escalate issues to Platform Moderators.
Reporting and Enforcement
If you encounter content or behavior that violates these guidelines, please use the reporting tools available on posts and profiles. All reports are reviewed. Violations may result in content removal, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, at the discretion of the moderation team.
